Organization’s History
United Way of Massachusetts Bay Inc (now known as United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley or UWMBMV) incorporated in 1935. The organization evolved to reflect the needs of the community, eventually focusing on four areas of impact: Healthy Child Development, Increasing Youth Opportunities, Sustainable Employment and Affordable Housing. In addition, providing basic needs is the foundation of each of our strategic impact areas. In 2007, UWMBMV shifted the way it invests in its network of agencies by tying its investments to the progress each agency makes toward defined community goals.  The targets within each goal enable the organization to more effectively measure and report upon its progress in the community. Today the organization supports more than 200 agencies in 87 cities and towns in Massachusetts.
